The Idea
We want Edgware to be a place where people love to live, work, shop, socialise and enjoy nature - day and evening. Somewhere with a healthy mix of big-name brands, independent businesses and bustling markets. With open space, access to nature, better transport, and more things to do for the whole community.
Designed for people and community
We intend to build a new Town Square for everyone with shops, restaurants, and space for live performances and pop-ups. There’ll be a new, larger, Sainsbury’s (without a day of trading lost), as well as a new cinema, library, leisure centre, and playground. We're also working with the NHS Integrated Care Board to develop a health offering to serve existing and future residents. We’ll have affordable homes for first-time buyers, families, seniors and people with accessibility needs.
Greener, cleaner and closer to nature
By moving the bus garage underground and the bus station to a more convenient location in front of the Underground station we can reduce congestion and improve accessibility while making crossings safer. We want to make it easier to walk or cycle around by including excellent cycling facilities within the scheme’s boundary. In the first year, we will be busy creating new green spaces, planting over 400 new trees. We also intend to open up access to the nearby Deans Brook Nature Park, adding a new nature trail sensitively created using existing operational paths.
Respecting heritage
Edgware is proud of its past and we intend to acknowledge it – with new buildings sympathetic to the local 1930s architecture. We also want to improve shop fronts and building facades in the area, as well as the appearance of Station Road, maintaining the character of the area.
