The process of consultation
Any changes to Edgware town centre need to work for the residents and workers in Edgware – both in the short term and for the generations to come. Therefore, getting feedback from the local community is crucial to bettering Edgware town centre for everyone who lives, works and meets there.
Over the course of the consultation, we received over 1,900 public contributions and our project team met with over 3,000 local people at more than 150 community engagement events. This feedback from the community has influenced the evolution of the landscape and amenities. You can view the latest designs here, and find out about future drop-in events by visiting our news page.
To better understand local sentiment towards our proposed redevelopment of Edgware Town Centre and people’s priorities for the future of the area, we also commissioned independent market research company Savanta to conduct a local survey. You can read more about the findings of this survey, and its methodology, below.
Key findings
A significant majority of those surveyed think our proposals will have a positive impact on Edgware. Two thirds (64%) of respondents agreed Edgware is in need of regeneration. And when reminded or introduced to the plans, including overall housing numbers, building heights and additional proposed facilities, 70% said they thought the plans will have a positive impact.
The survey found there is widespread agreement with the priorities for regeneration, including new homes. The vast majority support the key priorities for regeneration including - reducing congestion and promoting sustainable transport (90%), delivering new green spaces and opening up access to the Deans Brook Nature Park (89%), improving Edgware’s air quality (86%) and building new affordable homes (74%). 28% said the delivery of new homes (including affordable homes) was their top priority, whereas 68% ranked public transport improvements in their top three priorities.
Methodology
Savanta surveyed 377 respondents who live locally and visit the Edgware town centre at least once every 2-3 months.
During data collection, soft quotas were implemented based on age and gender to ensure a balanced sample, while no weighting scheme has been applied after data collection.
The survey involved a series of pre-screening questions followed by prompts to understand awareness of the scheme and a brief description of what is proposed to ensure everyone had knowledge of key elements such as height, housing numbers, transport interventions and retail provision. Fieldwork took place from the 8th of August 2023 - 20th of August 2023. Interviews were carried out across HA8, NW4, NW7, NW9 postcodes.
You can view the survey findings in full on Savanta’s website.
