Edgware Summer Fair welcomed 3,000 visitors to commemorate 100 years of Station Road in Edgware
Almost 3,000 visitors joined in the fun at The Edgware Summer Fair, which took place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August 2023. The Fair celebrated the centenary of Station Road in Edgware.
Part of The Broadwalk’s long-stay car park was transformed into a family fun fair, which offered a wide range of activities, including:
Free arts and crafts workshops themed around nature and biodiversity, including making bird feeders, bug hotels, and leaf printing
Poetry writing inspired by the ‘Poems on the Underground’ programme
Storytelling for children
Live music from the best of London’s emerging artists
Free skateboarding and circus skills lessons for kids
A Makers’ Market with local and independent stallholders
A vintage Routemaster bus, hosting an exhibition of archive photography of Edgware, and children’s activities gifted by London Transport Museum.
Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about proposals for the future of Edgware Town Centre from property developer Ballymore and Transport for London’s commercial property company, who are working together with the Council to deliver this project; almost 400 people visited the Edgware Town Centre project stall.
The proposed Edgware Town Centre project would deliver 3,365 new homes (including up to 1,100 affordable homes) and 460 student accommodation spaces at a time when London needs new housing more than ever. It would create nearly 1,500 new full-time local jobs, generating circa £3 million annually in spending within the local area, plus an increased GVA of circa £80 million annually.
A total £1.7billion would be invested in Edgware Town Centre over a 10-year period, making Edgware an outstanding place for modern urban living, with thriving commerce; extensive new public spaces and parks; improved connectivity and public transport; new health infrastructure; new leisure and culture offerings and a variety of homes.
